In the depths of the ice age in Europe, at the end of the Upper Paleolithic, the Gravettian saw incredible societies of mammoth hunters thriving across Europe.
They lived in caves, rock shelters, and open-air settlements in mammoth bone houses and developed surprisingly complex and sophisticated societies. Their burials at sites like Dolní Věstonice and Sungir could include grave goods like ivory beads in enormous quantities, suggesting the emergence of social inequality.
They were the first people in the world to use ceramics, making small figurines of animals and people. They also made the world-famous Venus figurines in stone, ivory, and moulded from clay. So who were these people? Where did they come from? Where and how did they live? How could they create so much art in the depths of the ice age? And what ultimately happened to them?
This is the awe-inspiring story of the lords of the mammoth steppe; the Gravettians.

If you have been DNA tested, you can upload your DNA into "My True Ancestry" The site links your DNA to ancient people's DNA samples from ancient burials, natural mummies etc. Anywhere that DNA could be extracted. Yes it is a pay to view site like My Heritage etc, but it is fascinating and gives a much greater view of your ancient ancestry. I am related to the Amesbury Archer, and Chedder Man. That is, I share DNA with them, though not necessary them personally, but their wider family group. Pretty amazing!

Yeah, I feel like the scholar who thinks he's innocent just hasn't read anything about serial killers. There have been lots of cases like this, where a killer preyed on powerless people for decades and was never caught because no one cared enough to look into the disappearances very deeply.

Others just see the British as colonialists and usurper. They fail to understand the stifling snobbery of British class that even hero's and self made men are never accepted for their great deeds; just judged for their background. British people of lower class had to leave England if they were to be given merit for their endeavours; something never done at home. Consiquently men of ambition left their home and created their own England in every port they could do well and prosper. Debate how this turned out for their business and social circles in history but, at the time, those British of low birth had no other option if they wanted to do well and gain respect. The British class system drove our imperialism over any early idea of a British empire.
